When the AYM High Consultants team needs a new idea, an out-of-the-box revelation, or a reality check, we turn to our Innovation and Design Coach, Seema Mojawalla. She has a unique viewpoint that is always fresh, forward-thinking, and focused.
Seema has an eye for merchandising and a passion for finding the perfect products to sell at her model, growing business, Island Ship Center, an experienced-based retail shipping spa located 10 miles south of Niagara Falls in Grand Island, New York, which she co-owns with her husband Fahim.
The oldest of five girls, Seema was born and raised in Mercer County, Pennsylvania; her father immigrated from India and worked for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for 30 years before he retired in 2010. Seema completed her education abroad in foreign language.
Seema worked full-time as a stay-at-home-parent until fully coming on board with Fahim at Island Ship Center in 2013, eventually taking over as President of the company. She consistently, year after year, is increasing sales in the store through her merchandising and sourcing skills, new profit center acumen, ability to build a winning team and find diverse, unique talents that complement each other to provide the best guest service possible, and focus on the bottom line. And if running a popular, growing, busy retail shipping spa, and raising five exceptional children wasn’t enough, Seema is also the founder and head maker at Seema’s Naturals, an exclusive line of natural, handmade body care products.
Over the years, she has overseen many new business development and expansion projects at Island Ship Center, including the addition of heavy palletized freight packing and shipping and the building of a warehouse to accommodate such jobs, a beautiful, dedicated mailbox and business center, a state-of-the-art print room with all of the fancy equipment you’d imagine in such, and a full remodel and rebranding of the business to reflect a new mission and updated goals to become the “Spa of Shipping.”
Since 2015, Seema and Fahim have been traveling every year, attending industry events, interacting with industry professionals, and learning about trends in our industry so that they could grow the business. By connecting with the right people, adding stellar products and services, and streamlining efficient processes, Seema has seen her business grow in sales every year since 2015, even through the pandemic.
Seema was nominated to serve on the national board of directors for the non-profit Association of Mail & Business Centers (AMBC), and did so as Director of Innovation from 2016 to 2020. Working with other business owners in our industry was–and remains–incredibly rewarding. In 2018, The Zonta Club awarded her its Yellow Rose Award for “Outstanding Leadership & Service To The Community.”
If Seema has any ultimate goal in business relationships, family bonds, and friendships, it’s that those she interacts with are lifted up and given every opportunity to be their best.
